On Monday, February 25, 2019, the McPherson 8th grade basketball team went to Santiago to play their first game. The game started with Jay Snyder scoring and the Meteors taking the lead in the game that they kept it for the entire game. The team was prepared to go into this game and won by a final score of 47 to 32.

Jay Snyder said, “In my opinion, McPherson had an exceptional performance against Santiago’s basketball team leaving Santiago’s crowd and cheerleaders heartbroken.” It was a good game throughout the entire game. It never slowed down and McPherson kept on scoring.

Drew Nagler said, “We played lockdown defense and forced a lot of turnovers and scored a lot of points.”

During the middle of the game, Santiago narrowed McPherson’s lead to 5 points but the Meteors pulled through and kept the lead. In the end, the Meteors scored a total of 47.  Jaden Esparza led the team with 29 points, including 9 points from 3 point shots.  Santiago ended up scoring 32 points in total. We all cheering for the McPherson basketball hoping that their next game will be even better. Next up, the boys play Cerro Villa at home on Monday, March 4.
