On Monday, February 25th, 2019, the McPherson girls basketball team had their opening tip-off game against Santiago Middle School. The team started off strong with a 9 point lead at halftime, 13-4. They played really good defense, limiting Santiago to 4 points, but after a solid start, they fell off in the second half, only scoring 4 points. They let Santiago come back, allowing 15 points to Santiago re-adjusting their defense coming up with steals left and right, like McPherson in the first half, so the girls’ basketball team lost 19-17. The team was one basket away from tying it up to go to overtime but missed their final shot as time expired. Despite the loss, the girls have a lot to be proud of. They gave 100% effort on the court and they also showed their confidence out there, which was a key factor in the first half.

Rubin Bernardo said, “I feel great about playing basketball because you have to know how to dribble and shoot over your defenders.”

Sofia Andrews said, “I like playing basketball because I’ve been playing it for my entire life so far.”
