McPherson 6th & 7th grade football falls to Cerro Villa

On December 3, 2018, McPherson’s Flag Football team lost to Cerro Villa’s team 32 – 2. It was another tough game for McPherson and hopefully this game is motivation for our next game. McPherson’s defense scored a safety but their offense was completely shut out. For the other side Cerro Villa, it was an easy stroll as they passed right past McPherson defense and locked down tour offense. This game hurts as McPherson goes down in the season 0 – 2.

7th grader Garrett Kerr said: “Overall we just didn’t play as a team and need to get better at everything”.

Center 6th grader Ben Astor added, “We haven’t won a game yet so we are doing something wrong and definitely need to fix it fast before it’s too late”.

“The team played well. The score doesn’t really tell the story.” Mr. Turner said. “We had  a couple missed opportunities on offense and we still need to improve our contain defense, but we are getting productive play and the boys are getting better each week. Connor Smith did a great job at quarterback and Bram Richardson and Grant Walker pressured the CV offense into giving up a safety. I’m really proud of their effort and impressed with the heart we showed out there,” Turner said.

So from what I am hearing our McPherson team needs to work on offense and defense more. I am hearing that more practices are being scheduled which is good for the players to build their confidence and their skill.

On December 10 McPherson will host  Yorba Middle School which could be a confidence builder for our players to get the first win. To get this first win it would be huge because then our team would be confident going into our next game and hopefully win that game also. To have a win under our belt would be amazing for this McPherson team. We have great potential at winning games and we have a lot of skill on our team.
