McPherson Gets an Upgrade

Over the summer of 2018, some classrooms at McPherson Magnet School were remodeled with many new pieces of technology and furniture added. The school won a bid to have rooms by their choice remodeled by the district office and they completed the remodel before school started. They put in new carpets, added in T.Vs, and painted the rooms. The carpets were an upgrade from the old ones that were stained and rugged after years of use had worn them out. The T.V.s added into Mrs. Duncan’s room were an advancement as McPherson is a technology-based school. The paint on the walls was fresh and replaced walls that haven’t been painted for some time. The McPherson remodel is a great refresher for the school and is good for the teachers and students.

We interviewed Mrs. Ober, McPherson’s office manager, who was involved in the remodel of the office and classrooms in the 100s wing and asked her a few questions. “The classrooms were remodeled by the district office so we get to chose one or two buildings per year and this is one of the buildings because it included the main office. They put it out for a bid and the lowest bid by different vendors got the job.” Rooms got a fresh paint and new carpets for the first time since McPherson’s opening twenty years ago.

“I love it”, Mrs. Ober said. “The floors are beautiful. The carpets are beautiful. The paint is fresh and clean so it’s like a brand new place to work with. The classrooms look absolutely beautiful.”

In addition to the inside of the classrooms getting a remodel, the outside of the school got painted as well.

Middle school students seemed to like the changes. 8th grader Nathaniel Gutierrez said, “It looks really nice it’s definitely an upgrade from last year.” 6th grader London Aldridge said, “I think it looks very nice because now in Mrs. Duncan’s room there are two T.V.’s instead of one.” We then asked them if they could change anything about the remodeled classrooms. London told us “No I don’t think so because the rooms look really nice how they do.” Nathaniel had this to say. “Well, I think it’s pretty good right now as it is so I wouldn’t necessarily change anything.”
