McPherson students from all grades have started practice to compete in the Foundation Games. The team, coached by parent volunteers will compete at Fred Kelly Stadium on April 20-21.  Events include the softball throw, high jump, long jump, shot put, 100-meter run, 200-meter run, and 400-meter run 800-meter run, and 1600 meter run. There is also the frisbee throw and tennis ball throw. Practice is every Wednesday after school from 12:20 to 2:00.

8th-grade student Kenny Ly said, “ I am participating in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and the softball throw. I think I will like the Foundation Games.”

“The Foundation games are technically track and field. I like the Foundation games because it is not just sprinting and running. It is also the long jump and the softball throw. I think I could possibly win the mile run.” said Logan LaBarge.

Jacob Palacios said, “ I am participating in the 100-meter run, 200-meter run, and long jump. I think I will like doing it.”

“I think I like it. It is fun. I think I am going to win shot put.” says Matthew Zazueta.

Head coach Max Garnica said, “ I am coaching this year’s McPherson Orange County Foundation Games. The Foundation Games are April 20 and April 21. The Foundation Games is a track meet that that is from K-8. It is long jump, high jump, softball throw, shot put, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter dash, and 1600 meter dash. In the past, I have had kids go all the way to the state, so I believe some kids can go far.”

Students will continue to practice as they gear up for the April date. If you are interested in competing, come on our to practice on Wednesday.
