McPherson K-5 Science Fair Winners!

Logan McDonald, Staff Writer

On February 26, McPherson held the elementary science fair. First place winners were Oliver Mendoza kindergarten, Gia Garcia 1st grade, Lillina Mastroianni 2nd grade, Makayla Frith 3rd grade, Derek Torres 4th grade, Victoria Barajas & Charlie Lopez. These projects help students at a young age present and teach other people about what was learned. Doing research, learning, and the scientific method prepare younger students for middle school science fairs in the coming years. Who knows? You might find that science is your passion and continue researching.

Lilliana Mastroianni’s science fair was about skittles science.

Third-grader Makayla Frith’s science fair was about putting magnets down metal pipes.  “The science fair helps this school’s kids by helping them learn different types of science and helps kids learn different techniques of science.”

Fifth-grader Victoria said she like that we do a science fair. “It is good for kids to do the science fair because it teaches them at a young age.”

Derek Torrez, who is a fourth grader, did his science fair on the potato battery. Derek thinks that the science fair will inspire kids to make a difference.

Science fair is an important part of McPherson. Everyone should put their heart and dedication to each of their projects. Even if you don’t get to go to the county competition or get a medal you should always put your all into each and every science fair.
