McPherson Leadership Spearheads Pennies for Patients

Riley Norris and Jackson Bates

Leadership students have been working hard to organize a fundraiser for pennies for patients which runs from February 28 through March 13. Pennies for Patients is a fundraiser where McPherson collects pennies, coins, and bills in order to help children with Leukemia and Lymphoma. This year’s goal set is to raise $4000.  After Leadership collects the money it will be sent to different hospitals and help patients with cancer. The money from this fundraiser goes to children with a cancer called leukemia. Finding the cure for leukemia would save many lives all around the world and that is the goal for this fundraiser.

To organize Pennies for Patients, each leadership student has a class that they are assigned to. They assemble a collection box and decorate it for that class. Afterwards, they put the box into the classroom that it is for. Almost every day of the week, leadership students go get their box and count all of the money that has been brought in by that class. Leadership keeps track of each classes money that is brought in and the classes with the most money donated get a prize. The first place class gets a pizza party, the second place class gets an ice cream party, and the third place class gets a skittles party.
